Caregivers in Kansas City are burned out.

What RESTkc Families Are Saying

"I feel like I'm just surviving one day at a time."

— Olathe parent

autism and genetic conditions

“I feel constantly distracted from my full time job duties and being the bread winner and care coordinator is stressful. I have major depression and more recently panic attacks.”

— Shawnee parent

epilepsy, autism, anxiety, intellectual disability

“I am unable to work full time due to my caregiving responsibilities. I am unable to spend time with friends because I’m not able to find care for my child and can’t afford to pay for care. I rarely get to any healthcare appointments for myself due to my caregiving responsibilities. I have been to the ER for health issues that are preventable with routine healthcare visits the have been missed. And just feeling overwhelmed all the time.”

— Overland Park parent

Down Syndrome & autism

We are imagining a community where

families of medically complex & disabled children receive the gifts of renewal, empowerment, support, and time.

Where they can actually REST.

RESTkc is changing the landscape of caregiving.

Here’s how.

Our mission:

RESTkc provides support to families of children with medical complexities and disabilities, offering practical assistance and caregiver wellbeing services that help families reset, restore, and reconnect.

Our vision:

To build a community where families of children with medical complexities and disabilities find empowerment, renewal, and comprehensive support.

We are moving
care forward
through our 4 unique tiers of service.

The first level of support provides immediate, practical assistance to families facing high-stress situations. Services include light housekeeping, grocery or prescription pickups, and organizing children’s spaces to help caregivers regain a sense of order. This tier is designed to offer quick relief and create breathing room for self-care during difficult moments.

Renewal

Empowerment

Designed to address the emotional, mental, and practical wellbeing of caregivers, this tier offers regular check-ins, peer mentorship, self-care resources, and structured support groups. RESTkc helps caregivers build long-term resilience through advocacy training, resource navigation, and connections to community-based services.

This tier offers structured, trained companionship care to provide caregivers with short breaks while ensuring their child is engaged in social interaction, play, or reading. Volunteers can also assist with light household organization and structured activities to help families maintain balance. This tier allows caregivers to step away with confidence, knowing their child is in safe, caring hands.

Support

Time

This tier is about helping caregivers reclaim their time—both now and in the future. While RESTkc currently focuses on connecting families to existing respite and support options, our long-term goal is to establish a dedicated respite facility in Kansas City.

Our WHY.

RESTkc was founded by Nicole Crump, a Kansas City parent and advocate who understands firsthand the challenges of caring for a child with complex medical needs. Inspired by her daughter’s rare genetic syndrome and the gaps she encountered in caregiving support, she created RESTkc to offer the kind of practical help and meaningful rest she wished had existed for her own family. With a background in nonprofit leadership and a deep commitment to community care, she’s working to reimagine support for families of children with chronic conditions—making space for renewal, empowerment, support, and time.
